Thermowells and Protection Tubes

Thermowells

Thermowells are designed to protect temperature sensors and other temperature devices from coming in direct contact with the process being measured.

Features:

  • CRN (Canadian Registration Number) for a wide variety of alloys including dissimilar metals
  • Full penetration welding for flanged thermowells
  • Full material traceability and NDE options
  • CSA approved electrical instrument threads

Application: Temperature measurement in the process control infrastructure

Protection Tubes

Like thermowells, protection tubes protect temperature sensors and other temperature devices from coming in direct contact with the process being measured. Unlike thermowells, protection tubes are constructed to withstand very high temperatures that conventional alloy thermowells are unable to withstand. They can be assembled from either an alloy, ceramic or custom material and are generally manufactured from standard pipe and pipe fittings.

Features:

  • Ceramics and silicon carbides can be used in very high temperatures
  • Alloy tubes can be a low cost option compared to machined bar stock thermowells
  • Large bores can accommodate large outer diameter temperature sensors

Application: Protection tubes are commonly used in furnaces and other high temperature applications.
